Zuid-Scharwoude

Originally Scharwoude formed one village, but in the 12th century it split up between North and South Scharwoude. The two villages have since largely merged together and form part of the ‘village city’ Langedijk. The two village centres still retain their own characteristics. The area around Scharwoude is known as the “realm of thousand islands”, and traversing it by boat is a great experience. North and South Scharwoude are located close to the beautiful recreational nature reserve Geestmerambacht. A monumental Dutch Reformed church, the Koogerkerk, graces Zuid-Scharwoude.
