ScharwoudeScharwoude is located south of Hoorn, right next to the IJsselmeer and the Westfriese Omringdijk. It is separated from Hoorn by nature reserve “The Hulk”. Scharwoude is originally an old village, but parts of its origins were claimed back by the Zuiderzee during spring floods or when its dikes were breached. Close to the village is the Karperput lake, which emerged around 1675 when clay was dug up to build the dikes. It is now very popular with fishermen. Scharwoude is also known because it houses the headquarters of major road construction company “Ooms Avenhorn”. |
