OostwoudOostwoud used to form a municipality of its own in the early 19th century, together with the hamlets of Velthuis, Broerdijk and Tripkouw. It now forms part of the municipality of Medemblik. The village is characterized by its linear settlement patterns and its many farmhouses, most of which have been well preserved. Oostwoud is a village with a typically rural character and only relatively limited recent construction. In the 1970s the nature reserve “Egboetswater” was completed and enriched the entire surrounding area. Through the many paved bicycle and walking routes visitors can travel through the farmlands around the village. Local camping site “De Veerhof” offers excellent opportunities to stay and relax in an area full of peace and quiet. Oostwoud also boasts one of the oldest and best open-air swimming pools of West Friesland. |
