HoornIt is easy to fall in love with Hoorn. Especially the town centre is attractive with its many monumental buildings and their typical ‘stairway’ facades, the warehouses on the docks and the beautiful harbor area with the Hoofdtoren and the “Jongens van Bontekoe”. A stroll through Hoorn is ideal to rediscover its past as a major trading hub of the Dutch East Indies Company (“VOC”). The city truly comes alive in summer: from mid-July to late August the Wednesday markets attract many tourists. The “Hoornse Kermis” is one of the best fun fairs in the Netherlands and brings in visitors from throughout the region and beyond. Hoorn boasts no less than seven museums and deservedly calls itself “the Museum City”. |
